Hi all-
I got the following message from a friend today. Nothing to worry too much about just yet, but a good reminder that we should prepare ourselves.
"I got an email today from Washington County CERT (community emergency response team), which I am a part of.
There has been a number of small earthquakes in OR/WA coast the last few weeks. This is a good reminder to get your emergency kits together! Not that anything is happening in the foreseeable future, but they do predict a series of small activity before anything bigger."
There was a study that came out today that said that things are over-due too:

For friends living in the area that could be affected, get ready. For friends visiting our coasts, be prepared for evacuation and know your routes out. These days, I keep a kit in the car in the event that I don't have time to hook the trailer up, I can grab and run for higher ground, or drive (with clothes, food and water). They say start moving when you feel the earthquake. If you wait, it could be too late.
Just in case you wonder what should be in a kit, here is a list of the Red Cross suggested items:

Most of us have all of this with our trailers, and I consider Dottie our Emergency Kit, but I do need to restock some things.
One other tip, it is easier to make international calls than domestic during an emergency. You can usually get a line out, where all of the domestic lines will be full. One of our plans is to call relatives who live outside the US to check in. Everyone is supposed to call there, and we have told the international relatives that will happen.
