Here are a few pictures of our trip.
The 1st. is in Metropolis, IL.,2nd,3rd is in Land Between the Lakes Ky. & Tenn. 4Th is Becky jamming with JC Bond in Mountain View Arkansas, 4th is Becky no she is not playing with her computer but enjoying taking pictures with her Ipad.

We did a short trip this weekend to Geode State Park west of Burlington, Iowa Beautiful park but I would never camp there on a weekend. There was literally 10 feet from our camper to the fire pit of the next site. Luckily we were there Sunday and Monday night so there were very few people camping. Campground needs to have 1/2 the sites removed.
But that aside the park is beautiful.
In Burlington is Snake Alley, very beautiful brick street. They have a bicycle criterium every year that incorporates the Alley into the race.

Glad to read you liked that particular area of the country. I grew up and lived there, Paducah, for 50 years and am very familiar with LBL, etc. I had to notice the kayaks, great seeing other paddlers doing their thing! Have fun!...
 
We didn't get to paddle quite as much as we wanted, but we did manage to do a day paddle on Bayou Bartholomew (longest Bayou in the world) from Cane Creek St. Pk in Arkansas. What an impressive waterway. Cypress trees that were hundreds of years old. To bad the are no protections in place for it. Agriculture has denuded most of the trees right up to its banks. I really wanted to see an alligator, from a distance of course. Not speaking for Becky. :grin:
 
Here are 3 pics of gators for you. These critters are common here in central Florida. And they do not attack kayakers too often (unless they're really hungry!) thank goodness.

The "head and back" floating in the lake is on Lake Rousseau which is part of the Withlacoochee River on the outskirts of Dunnellon, Florida. It was probably 8 or 9 feet in length. The large one sunning itself on the bank is at Silver River here in Ocala, Florida and probably about 7 foot long. The baby gator was about 4 foot and it is on the bank at the Rainbow River in Dunnellon, Florida.

Great pics. Looks like you had a great trip. We did LBL about a dozen years ago with our 2 youngest girls - what a great place!

This past Sunday-Tuesday we took our Granddaughters from Colorado (we brought them back with us from the oldest ones high school graduation in Denver a week ago) up to Wisconsin. They are 13 and 18 we stayed 2 nights at Jellystone campground at Bagley along the muddy Miss. It was actually a very nice park. Kind of felt the girls would not be happy if they didn't have some activities for them. It really helped for me that it was a Sunday and Monday night so the park was near empty except for the permanents. On Monday we took them back to Spook Cave near McGregor, Ia. A short but fun john boat ride into a cave. (very low ceiling in part of it, must bend way over) then we took them to Effigy Mounds Nat. Monument. Of course they both got too tired before we made it to the top of the bluff to see the first Effigy Mound. (I had been there before).
Is it the age group? But are all kids more interested in having their heads stuck in their cells phones 99% of the time then seeing what is around them or interacting with what/who is around them. They don't seem to be interested in anything but texting or Facebooking.
For the books we drove 410 mi. and stayed 2 more nights in our 560 (except me I was relegated to the hammock.)
One more thing, those railroad tracks along the river are like a train super highway, I swear there is a train every 15 minutes.
 
Sounds like a nice 'weekend' trip. We've stayed at Wyalusing SP, which I'm sure you are familiar with. That whole area is great - McGregor is a very cool town to see. Have you camped at Pike's Peak SP before? We rode through it and viewed the Mississippi from there, but haven't stayed.
Ah, kids and texting - it can be such a treat...

We have not stayed at Pike's Peak. We just love that whole area, both sides of the river. A lot to see and do.
