Sandhills are one of my favorites. These were taken at Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife area in Northern Indiana about a week ago. Worth the 1+ hour drive.
great photos, Ken
If you get out to California where we live (Lodi CA), the sandhill cranes are wintering over in the delta area just west of town. We've had our crane festival along with bus tours, taking people out to the delta wetlands where the cranes feed and roost. The festival is over but the cranes remain on display for all to see. Free tours are available and people are welcome to drive out toward evening on your own and enjoy all kinds of migratory fowl. It's a beautiful sight when 1000-2000 cranes come in for a landing. These birds remain until mid-February when they lift off and travel to their nesting areas. And there's lotsa good wine to taste from the hundred or so wineries in and around Lodi. Come on out- it's a win-win situation.
