Spice Rack By Cindy & Dean

This is the first post from the new owners of a 550 Ultra, #965 - hopefully I won't screw it up. Our first custom addition was inspired by the photo from a few years ago, we loved the idea of a spice rack above the stove. After searching in a few stores and online we couldn't find any racks that we liked, so we built our own. Cindy found some 1 oz. spice bottles online from Berlin Packaging and I built a rack attempting to stay true to the character of the CI, using aluminum, birch ends and SS screws. There is 1/8" shock cord stretched across the front of the bottles.

Great workmanship! Looks like a factory install. BTW, we vacationed in Santa Fe a few years ago. One of our best vacations ever.

That's a nice looking spice rack.

Something to keep in mind, perhaps the worst place to store spices would be in the galley of a teardrop. The heat will pretty much destroy any spices in there. (same with olive oil, etc.)

Still, that's where we store ours.....

Not a big deal, regardless

Hoping someone can tell me that I'm wrong!!

Thank you for all the kind words, comments and likes. We just completed our first trip with the spice rack and the shock cord kept all of the spice bottle is place - note there was only a moderate amount of gravel roads involved in this trip.

Al, to your comments, yes we have heard this from other sources as well. For what it is worth, the benefit of the small bottles is that they need to be refilled from the grocery store bottles. The skill we will need to develop over time is to add only as much spice as needed to avoid the heat degradation you have described.

Finally, I was reminded by my lovely wife that I was in error about this being our first custom addition. Our actual first addition involved a Kleenex holder that was completed by Camp-Inn during initial construction. I will create a new post with pictures.
