Well all, it finally happened. One of our customers reported today his 2005 550 Ultra was stolen. It was being stored in a RV storage facility in Ventura CA and went missing. It is serial number 144. The customer has the serial number tag because he never got around to putting it on the trailer. So, the trailer would be devoid of it's serial tag but a number of trailers of an older vintage are if the customer did not install the tag we sent them.

So, how exactly is this going to go unnoticed? The customer still has the keys so likely the trailer now has the locks drilled out or completely different door handles installed.

Keep an eye out for it. The teardrop world is a pretty tight nit group so I would think it should pop up somewhere.

Wow is right! And stolen from a storage facility. I wonder what kind of liability they have? I shouldn't be so surprised - I know people steal things all the time - but it still amazes me to think that someone feels they can just take something that doesn't belong to them. I hope they can recover it, and that it's in good shape when they do.
 
If this unit is ever on the road, I would think it will go to a fixed camp and never taken out....But if any of us see a Camp-Inn whose owner is aloof, be suspicious.
 
Who's jurisdiction are we talking about here, Cary? Any contact information, officer in charge or report number in case any of us run across the purloined trailer?

With a lot of people out of jobs and even homeless, a 550 is a perfect solution, hidden away on someone's property somewhere. I'll be praying they slip up and get caught! Prayer changes things folks.
 
Update! The customer in Ventura has had his stolen trailer recovered.

It was found sitting in a apartment building parking lot abandoned. When the building management went to have it towed away was when it was discovered to be reported stolen. The perp had managed to break into the camper without doing serious damage. Most of the customers good camping gear is missing.

A very happy Camp-Inn customer has been reunited.

Halllelujah! I've been praying it would be found! Ours in safely stowed in our closed garage with two locks on the tongue, but I want to get the claw for the wheel so when we go out I feel more secure. Nothing like being a bit paranoid... Happy for the owners - thanks for updating Cary!
 
Glad it's recovered. Hope they got lots of fingerprints and eventually catch the rat finks who stole it.

Here, once again, I fall victim to the "Why am I the last to know?" syndrome. :D :D :D :D

I vaguely overheard something about this in a conversation this morning when we had some soon-to-be CI owners stop by the gathering for a visit & now I see it's true! Yay! :)

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I left on Friday for our Tearjerker Birthday gathering, no one there knew about it & it was a busy weekend, so it's not like anyone was withholding the information....okay, well, maybe Craig was, but not intentionally... :D

Glad it made it's way home...now, if it could only talk....

Many of us store our trailers in the garage, and while that is a great option from a security standpoint there is still a possibility for a thief to get into your garage. About 3 months ago my vehicle was broken into late at night while parked in the driveway. On the visor I had my garage door opener for anyone to use. After ransacking my vehicle, the thief decided to open the garage door. Fortunately my garage door is wired to my alarm system, and the thief ran off. After this incident I now keep a tongue lock and wheel lock on the trailer.

We'e fortunate in that we can store both mini van and Raindrop with tongue lock inside the garage. We NEVER leave our van in the drive - it's always pulled inside with the garage door down. The garage door opener is kept safe. Our neighbor, a Houston Police Officer had his wife's car broken into just the other night and they stole her Nook - she forgot to lock the car! Not to mention that you never leave anything of value in the car in the firs place. So many kids are out of school and looking for drug money - someone in our very nice neighborhood was caught trying to steal the copper wire from one of the street lights! It goes to show you that the thieves are everywhere! Lock and load - in Texas we have the right to protect our property...just sayin'....
