I LOVE Lassen! I went to high school in Red Bluff, so it was my "back yard". in the 70's my folks felt comfortable letting my and a few friends spend days there. Favorite hike of mine -you need 2 cars one dropped off at Kings meadow, so if going w friends plan on this -start at the trail...

    AlCat's Camping Journal

Lost Coast is a favorite place. First went there in the 70's with my folks. Make sure to have a full gas tank! We did get gas at Pertrolia one time, but not reliable. Its a wild and amazing place. Be sure to drive the Avenue of the Giants coming or going. When ready for some civilization -...

Is Subaru Outback 4 cylinder sufficient?

Quinny, We have a 4 cylinder Subaru. The only time it really slowed was heading west from Bishop to Lake Sabrina. But then, the grade is so steep, everyone was chugging. See you in Lake Perris in March?? Look at teardroptime website for info. Eileen

    Joshua Tree?

Also dogs and jumping cholla don't mix! Seen some hurting pups who brushed up against them. Not sure of the cholla distribution in JT, but I would be cautious.

    Best Cook Set?

We have the magma set. My only complaint is the bungee they supplied to keep it together. A piece of webbing and velcro solved that problem! Its been a great set for cooking all kinds of stuff. I will look into the colander. I have a silicone pop up colander, but having one that stores in...

    Itinerary Nw Round-up 2015

Re: NW Round up Sarah, Thanks for the dog info. I looked up the park and they have an off leash area near the day use area. Would be perfect to run off energy! Our dogs are used to being on leashes at all times and prefer to be with us -i.e. in the way and under foot. We are diligent...

Re: NW Round up Definitely a possibility for us! Last summer we did the amazing IRG using elderly moms in No Cal as home base to get in needed visits with them and to get in some fun camping for us. What is the dog policy at the campground? Our pups love to camp! Eileen

    Omelet McBiscuits

Thanks George. I will play with both liner types. The only clean up I have had problems with was the omelet Mcbiscuits. Since I would prefer a simple morning clean up, to have time to go explore where we are camping, I will use a liner next time - ill try each and see what I prefer. The...

San Simeon SP - no water

For those west coast campers -we have reservations to stay at San Simeon SP, by Hearst castle on the way home from the IRG in July. We got a phone call from State Parks stating that due to the drought there will be NO water available, No showers and they are bringing porta-potties. Since we...
