    Beeswax on New Lodge DO

Again I have been away from site for some time. So I will now get up to date and express some "opinions" 1. Lodge pans are and if properly taken care of "non stick". I love to demonstrate the slippery egg. The rough surface of a new pan is not an issue. 2. The new pans from Lodge have an...

    Beeswax on New Lodge DO

Sue, if they are to be totally brought to bare metal, put them in you house oven and put in the self clean mode and let that burn off the seasoning. there may still be some crusties on the pans, so you can scrape them with anything that wont gouge the cast iron. Once clean of the crusties, warm...

Sausage with potatoes and green beans.

This looks to be a very easy recipe. If you are camping and don't have a grill, this would be excellent in a Dutch Oven

    Beeswax on New Lodge DO

The blocks of filtered beeswax are 3.1oz. They are melted and poured through a filter. They are about the size of a bar of hand soap https://plus.google.com/photos/106808388181550005451/albums/6087978759155384097?authkey=CJm-367aytLlFA

    Beeswax on New Lodge DO

wow Frank, judging from the pic above you are rather tough on your cleaning of your cast iron. LOL Pure beeswax is the only kind to use. I am not particular if it is European bees, African Bees etc. I have been using Tennessee Bees wax. Betsey has been selling it at the CICO, and I now...

    Beeswax on New Lodge DO

Not sure how to do the quote thing, If you are happy with the mix, then go with it. I personally would use only Crisco shortening if I didn't prefer Bees Wax. 450 deg. if temp is accurate, may be a little high. I shoot for 425 tops by my oven thermometer. If You get around 500 deg. you take a...

What is everyone cooking at CICO this year?

Gina, The cooking part is some of the best fun when camping. Food always tastes better when cooked outside. For sure don't be afraid of the Dutch Oven. If you can crock pot, you can Dutch Oven. I have to confess, I am a cooking junkie, it is what I love to do. I am not a good cook by any...

    Beeswax on New Lodge DO

I have moved my seasoning operations to a propane grill outside. I also try to maintain 400 deg. Hotter than that you are in jeopardy of burning your seasoning (all of it) off. Accuracy of stove thermometers is suspect. BTW your skillet looks good. Now grab a pound of bacon and under a low...

Evan, the sin is having food "leftover" to micro wave. Ya cooked too much, or don't have many friends LOL

    Omelet McBiscuits

Clean up on the breakfast dish should be fairly simple, ensure there is plenty of lubricant (grease/ fat), and use a low heat. I have found that if you one tends to try to cook too fast with their cast iron, clean up can be an issue. Also put hot, as hot as you can get it, water in DO and let...

    Omelet McBiscuits

Eileen, for many years I was a purest. My food had to be touching the cast iron. Well I started having trouble with one particular dish that I was making breaking down my seasoning, and the raw cast iron was exposed to the moisture. Yes even the bees wax seasoning succumbed. I then tried a...

    Omelet McBiscuits

Eileen, Yes for sure you could make it a one pan meal, I would cook the sausage at a low temp, so that the sugars don't caramelize and cause "stuff" to stick to the pan. If the sausage is really greasy, drain some off. Just follow the recipe after that. enjoy. I like the KISS method.

    Katom restaurant supply

Katom restaurant supply is probably the lowest price for a lot of your cooking needs. Especially cast iron. They carry a great line of Lodge (my preference) when you get on home page, just search Lodge cast iron. Visit Amazon and Lodge sites and make a list of what you are interested in...

Most of your supermarkets have unsliced bologna. You can get them ranging from 3 to 5 pounds. Yes it is a bolgna roast. It is really good.

    Smoked/Q'd Bologna

Yup Bologna! Try it b4 you turn up your nose. If you don't carry a portable grill, it could be done in a Dutch Oven as well. This is best done with a 3# chub of bologna. Ingredients: 3# chub bologna bottle of favorite BBG sauce (I like Jack Daniels) Also a rub of your choice 2Tbs...

    Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin

This recipe has been tried at home, and was very successful I have reduced it down to a tear drop size dish. I suggest one makes the marinade up and freezes the meat in the marinade. Thaw out when ready to cook. 1 lb of Pork Tenderloin 1/4 lb of BACON 1/4 cup soy sauce 1 tsp minced...
