First lengthier trip in the Raindrop (Big Bend)

When we went in 2019 we took the boat across the river for lunch in Boquillas. I thought the food was great. Very interesting town. Take lots of small bills. We spent $80 for the boat ride across, the mule to town, lunch, and gratuities. Get guidelines from the rangers pertaining to customs.

    New Mexico or Bust!

Any time to work in White Sands NP? I thought it was quite interesting. Only need a day or so there. Might be hot. Really liked Oliver Lee State Park nearby.

    Hello!! from #1140.

It’s been years since I camped at McLain. They’ve had erosion problems (bluff above the lake) they had to fix. It’s a nice campground and I look forward to camping there again. Have stayed at Fort Wilkins several times, most recently was last fall. It too is a nice campground. East loop is a...

    Hello!! from #1140.

In the Keweenaw I'd suggest a visit to the Jam Pot bakery near Eagle Harbor. See the sunset from the top of Brockway Mountain. See the sunrise from the Copper Harbor overlook on Brockway Mountain Drive. Where will you be camping on the Keweenaw? Steve

    Camping Shower

When we camp we bring small door mats with us to keep outside the doors. Helps keep the inside of the trailer clean. We use that to stand on while showering to protect and keep feet clean. In most of the parks we camp in we get enough privacy behind the trailer, car, picnic table, trees, etc...

    Camping Shower

We made this shower last summer. We put a piece of masking tape vertically on it, then primed and painted it black. Peel the tape off to leave a small vertical clear stripe to use as a gauge. The black tank will absorb heat from the sunlight to heat the water during the day, or heat it on the...

    Tire Levelers

We’ve always been just fine using the stabilizer jack to level the trailer.

    Wind

We found a windscreen on Amazon that worked good. It has a clip at the right height that the cabinet door latch can be used to hold it upright. It’s a Redcamp 8 plate camping stove windscreen, with carrying case. It was $11. Set up size is 26”x9.5”. Amazon says item is currently unavailable...

FL Blackwater River State Park -fl

We stayed here for 1 night, a couple of weeks ago. We were driving from South Carolina to Jazz Fest in New Orleans. It is a very nice campground, with clean, and well designed showers. We were impressed with this state park! Looking at the pictures I wished we would have had more time to explore.

Seeking Tips For Refreshing Water On The Road

We carry a 7 gallon Reliance water container we purchase from REI. The container is sturdy and has handles in the right places, so the load is balanced when pouring. If 7 gallons is too heavy, don’t fill it. We will often put the water jug on the picnic table and draw water from it. This...

    Jazz Fest New Orleans

We just left New Orleans after attending Jazz Fest this past Saturday and Sunday. Good time, great music, and great food! We camped at Founteblue state park on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The campground was 4 miles away from the north terminus of the causeway. Driving to our parking...

    Huntington Beach State Park

Staying at this campground now. Very nice. Definitely would recommend the north loop. North loop has 3 restrooms. One looks fairly recently renovated and until May one is closed for renovation. Whole park seems very well maintained. Reserve early. We could not get 3 nights in a row, even though...

Solar Hookup Need Advise On Best Portable Solar Panels

We use a Zamp 120 watt portable panel. It will usually give a full charge by mid to late afternoon, depending on sun. We run a Dometic refrigerator, which as the above said is the big draw. I wouldn’t want anything smaller than the 120 watt, at least for our use. Our panel has a 15 foot cord...

    Good Backpacking Tent Suggestions?

We have a Big Agnes Copper Spur. We’re 6’ and 6’1”, so we have the 3 person, which is just right for the 2 of us. It is light weight, packs reasonably small, is easy to set up, and has great features. Big Agnes also makes a Copper Spur 2 person, which I believe is the same as the 3 person, just...
