Hi Folks-Found you by accident and have been reading all over here and learning new tidbits talking to Cary some as well. I've read and lurked over at the teardrop forum for over a year now.

I've realized with my experience in a small half pop popup and a vintage shasta (that is still sitting in my driveway with barely work done on it)....that I really just need a sweet bug out trailer for myself-when I need an overnight retreat and my family for fun camping/traveling that is DONE! AND doesn't require any schelping on my part with regard to chuck boxes or setting up a kitchen--bleck. The more I look and think I find how completely logical it is to have your whole kitchen out the back and not inside anything.

With regard to teardrops? You know that 70's song by ELO "yes I can't get you out of my head".....yeah, the fascination with tiny trailers just won't go away. I'm having a menopausal obsession here. I'm just woving Camp Inn tears read hugs and hearts....and I've never seen one in person. But I've looked at everything online that there is to look at.....I'm done and I'm not looking anymore.

So I'm a wannabee. I have to sell some stuff before I'm a gonnabee. My questions will follow in another thread. Yay to all of you who made their decisions and are enjoying the journery with their sweet tears!

Hello, Paula. It sounds to me like you have been bitten by the teardrop bug. Welcome to the club!

thanks guys. yeah I've given it alot of thought. I may keep my vintage shasta and work on it some. It's a small one but it's still a tall size trailer, like a breadbox behind your car. I saw it as a little cottage on wheels.

However there are going to be times that I want to steal away to recharge on my own or with a girlfriend and having the "instant" cottage and kitchen you get in a pint size trailer can't be beat. I'm still trying to figure out how the 14 yr.old son, husband and big dog fit in to the picture. I'm working on it!

Your husband goes in the trailer, the big dog goes in the side tent, and your son goes in his own private tent. :)

our son is a little skittish alone in a tent in bear country. No great need to worry much but there are here. They come visit in our yard alot, already around.

Saw a So-Cal with a roof top tent on it and the lightbulb went off. Been talking to Cary a bit about it. Definitely possible for a lightweight RTT on tear. Instant set up as well.

Wow - never would have considered that. Would that be bearproof?
Is your son shorter than 5'? If so he could do the bunk.

What about your tow vehicle? We actually slept in the back of our CR-V once with an air mattress. Not the most comfortable thing in the world, but how much does a 14-year-old care? :) Perhaps a custom shaped piece of foam would make things pretty comfy...

Evan-thanks for the input! The RTT is off the ground and less likely to be disturbed....not that the black bears disturb too much around here but you have to be aware. With the enroachment of their territory by developments in the mountains they are so much more prevelant than they used to be.

The tent can go on the car (higher) or the TD. This is why they have been used so long in Africa and Australia. Yep I'm thinkiing about the car as well but it's short and the son is about 5'6" or so and growing of course.

I want flexibility without the hassle, hence TD thoughts. I have a 3 person pop up which can do for awhile however it still requires kitchen camp set up....chuck box/ice chest etc.

With the responsibilites of my business, when I want to do an overnight by myself/with a friend or steal some camping days with family I want TOTAL (or close to it) ease of use and very little set up time.

Paula, I didn't realize the RTT was a readily available product. I was imagining a custom job by Camp-Inn. They do look pretty neat. Our six-year-old is growing faster than a weed - we may need a RTT before long.

On sleeping in the CR-V - if you put the seats down, you can fit a whole queen air mattress in the back. The only problem is that the seats don't lay quite flat, so the mattress was at a bit of an angle. With a custom (angled) piece of foam it could work very well.

hum, we have an '05 CR-V. Our seats fold forward but they are still there. They don't go flat. I'll have to see if the son could potentially fit, never tried.
