Hi - we are Jim and Joci and we picked up our Raindrop on June 25, 2015. We are beginning to plan our winter trip south to New Orleans, the east to Mississippi, Alabama and Florida with an extended stay in the Florida Keys and then up through South and North Carolina and Georgia and across Tennessee to Kentucky and Missouri and back home. We are looking for ideas of good camp grounds through out this trip. We are so excited and have been busy getting to know this trailer. We will take a 4 day trip locally in a few days and then many more local camping experiences before we embark on our winter trip. We like to bike ride and walk with a little hiking, we like water for swimming and exploring. We like learning about the country and the people and we like to cook good food.

We are still working on settling on a name for our camper.
 
Welcome and congrats on your 560! Sounds like you have a great trek planned and we'd love to help, but that is an area we don't know - yet. Planning to visit much of the same area ourselves this fall, so we'll be watching this thread closely.

The Camp Inn family will all be chiming in soon and you'll shortly have all the info you need. Nice group of people here.

Now that you are here, please stay with the forum and share your journeys. Really love reading about people's adventures.

Hi, Jim and Joci. Congratulations! In answer to your question about places in Alabama: we have family in Tuscaloosa and when we have a family gathering, and have traveled there in our teardrop, we always camp at the Deerlick Army Corps of Engineers Campground. It's about a half hour drive northeast of Tuscaloosa and has a Publix grocery store conveniently halfway between Tuscaloosa and Deerlick. The website is:

Lakeside sites are 34-39 but we usually use #23 because it's right across the drive from the washroom (there is also a small laundry) and we spend most of our day in town with family.

Last Spring we happened upon the Corps of Engineers campground outside of Coffeeville. It's called the Service campground and is off Highway 34 east of the Mississippi state line. Their website:

We love Corps of Engineers campgrounds because they are usually on water, have decent facilities, and - because we have a seniors national park pass - we usually pay half price for the night.

Hi Guys,

I lived in the AL/FL Panhandle area for over 9 years...here are a couple places I would check out:

Orange Beach/Gulf Shores AL - http://www.alapark.com/Gulf-State-Park-Camping (great beaches and close to the Naval Museum at NAS Pensacola)

Grayton Beach FL -https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/Grayton-Beach (close to all the great small beach towns on 30A and also Destin and Panama City)

As you make your way to the Keys, I would check out camp areas around Homosassa and Crystal River...great manatee watching /tours

I would also checkout Gatlinburg TN...if you've never been there!

Hi Joci and Jim,

We enjoyed St. Joseph Peninsula State Park in Port St. Joeseph, which is in the panhandle about 50 miles east of Panama City. If you like miles of undeveloped beach and beautiful sunsets, I would suggest a few days here.

We hope you enjoy your new trailer.
 
Welcome! We are in Upstate SC. In our state you will want to look at the State Parks which usually have nice campgrounds. There are four on the coast and several in the mountains. One of the newer ones in the mountains is Devil's Fork on Lake Jocassee. Great hiking in the mountains here.

The mountains will put you close to both NC and GA and their mountainous areas which are nice as well.

There are several Corps lakes that have campgrounds on the lakes as well. Lake Hartwell is the one in my town.

You will want to hit Charleston for the food and history.

Hilton Head has a great network of cycling trails/paths. If you are into more serious cycling the Greenville area near is great for that.

Crossing from NC into Tennessee check out Asheville NC for a food/arts/scenery.
 
Sounds like you're going to have an awesome time, camping in some great areas of the country! No help here, as we haven't camped that way yet. I'm sure you'll find some beautiful places, and look forward to hearing about them when you've finished your adventure.
