With school finished for a while I have decided to go ahead with plans to upgrade the forum to modern software. The current software, though once cutting-edge, has been abandoned by the developer and has not received an update in over five years.
This will be the biggest upgrade in the 6 year history of the Unofficial Camp-Inn forum, but I hope to make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone.
The biggest advantages of new software will be support for mobile devices and easy picture uploading, along with a host of other improvements.
I will do my best to make sure that the good things about the current software don't go away, but with new software there will of course be changes to the interface. Particularly, the interactive map (which I custom coded for our site) may not be compatible with the new software, but I am already looking into an alternative solution.
I hope to have the transition made within the next month before I start my new job in Nebraska. Nothing will change immediately. I will be setting up the new site in parallel with the old one and do thorough testing before it goes live. I will keep you all updated on the progress.
For those of you who are interested in taking a sneak peak, the new site is located here: www.campinnforum.com/community/
At the moment, there's not much to see.
