Morning Cup Of Coffee And Weather

Hey Tour did you turn off the light when you got home? :)

Great time …. Goes to fast.. Tue Weds arrival next year? Thursday to Sunday just went sailing right on by! Waiting for the last embers of the fire till 1:30 AM !

Duck hunting for northern Juneau County started on Sep. 26, but that is for the area north of Hwy 21, which runs East/West through Necedah. The park is several miles south of 21 and duck hunting for southern Juneau County starts Oct. 3. Although that would be shotguns. However, people sometimes "interpret" the dates as guidelines rather than hard and fast rules...
That is so true. Although it didn't sound like shotgun rounds, more like a 22 to my untrained ear. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m still here. We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning. This is a beautiful area. The temperatures this time of year are perfect—slightly cool, which is fine. With the inclement weather missing us, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Then, the friends started showing up. Conversations from a year ago picked up right where they left off. This is truly a special group of people.

The flies have gotten aggressive - over the weekend they weren't bad, but today that has changed - they are horrid.

It was empty yesterday, even more so today. A couple of people were pulling out, and a teardrop from another loop was departing. It’s just so quiet.

I was a little concerned that one of our ‘clan’ members was living up to Craig’s shirt. We had a 520 sitting by us last night, empty. But this morning, they picked it up when I wasn’t looking. I assume all was well.

Now, the only trouble is that they roll up the sidewalks here in the off-season. So, we’ll be scouting out some firewood and having one last meal on the grill here soon that I need to get supplies for.

Tomorrow is our travel day. Mrs. S. will be heading home directly; I’ll be heading home through South Bend to see a family member I haven’t seen in a while. I really wish there was a way to avoid Illinois completely, particularly the traffic of the northeast. It’s too far to head home via the UP, which adds seven hours. It may be worth it.
(There may be a piece or 2 of firewood left at site #179...)

With the park as busy as it was on Wednesday, I think Tuesday is good. I passed through here on Tuesday night, and there were already a few of us here. We were still seeing people leave today, though they were definly stragglers.

Yah, Saturday night was a little late :D -- last year I think it was more like 2 or 2:30. The skies were crystal clear and the skies amazing. I grew up a city slicker -- night skies were amber from the street lights. Honestly, I don't remember seeing a shooting star...last year though it was every few seconds.

Definately not 22 -- shotgun yes, but not sure what gauge. Small. 410?

My wife LOVED the carrot cake!

No kidding! We shared ours with a passer through --- we would have divorced over the 3'rd slice :D

That carrot cake was delightful! I was wondering how the granular sugar would work out, but it was just fine! We don't eat very much in terms of sweets - dark chocolate is about as far as it typically goes after dinner.

@taranis17 - you make it home in 1 try, or did you stop halfway like you thought you would. Get parked OK? I drove into the food festival and saw a jar of Jif and started laughing....

I drove straight thru - 16 hours. Never doing that again, but it’s nice to be home and have a few days to relax, unpack and apologize profusely to the dogs with bags of chicken treats.

Dustin - Like we used to do every year - Homemade Ice Cream & Dutch Oven Cobblers. This year it was Apple, Apple Pecan, Peach, Rhubarb, Blueberry, 2 Chocolate Cherries, Lemon Cream Cheese, 2 Rootbeer Apple Spice Cake
Oh, I knew we were unfortunately going to miss out on all the wonderful cobblers, and homemade ice cream with our early departure. It was the carrot cake I was wondering about....it's one of my favorites, and I hadn't seen that as part of the dessert fare in the past, but I suspect it maybe wasn't at the same sitting. ;)

I guess I’ll have to make another carrot cake and deliver it to MN! :)

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package, block cream cheese, cold, you can use Neufchatel if you're not planning to pipe it
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar, or 3/4 cup, if you prefer less sweet
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream or heavy cream, cold

The frosting that makes it great…. I did use less sugar…

I just finished winterizing the Class A and now need to give it one last clean on the inside. The 560 is in the man cave and the cave needs to be put in fall configuration. I use it through the football season and then winterize it.

We can get our first snow anytime although it can happen as late as mid December.

Hey none of those dirty four letter words on the forum!

Yesterday cleaned the outside of the 560, did all the interior wash. Today I’ll tackle cleaning the inside and putting it back together. Ready to hit the road on Thursday for a week and a few days.
We will be checking out a couple tearjerker events.

We’re getting all the outside work done before remnants of hurricane Polo runs thru later this week. I’ll clean the camper in the garage while it’s raining outside.

We just booked a couple days at Marrick State Park on the Mississippi in Wisconsin near Fountain City over Columbus Day holiday. We'll take the kayaks - there are some nice trails through the backwaters that we haven't paddled for 15 years or so. Time to reconnect with some of those old river towns...

When I’m asked at school why I’m retiring in May, I’m just going to start showing them this list. Coming up for this is one of the things we look forward to being able to do. I will also look at this list when I wonder if I’m doing the right thing.

Made it home. Exhausted. How estimates were optimistic. Plus I took a side quest through Joliet area. The interstate and tollways are kicking my butt I had to get off to side roads
That section of I80 in Joliet is going to be a nightmare for close to 18 more months. They're going to tear down the old steel bridge over the Des Plaines River as part of a major project that will grind traffic to a standstill. I hope to experience the completed area roadway before I croak...
