Sarah, last year we went camping the last weekend in September and it rained pretty solidly on Saturday. I had the side tent set up with the rainfly. Inside the side tent stayed completely dry. I have not applied water proofing to the side tent. I probably will this year before heading out but will continue to use the rainfly.
