Saw this in an antique store in Pontiac, IL today and thought it was not only unique, but pretty darn good.

It is a nice picture. Did the pan have a crack or other serious defect that would prevent it's using it for cooking? If not, as a user of ci, I would be inclined to buy it for cooking, not the artwork. ;)

Especially if it is an older or quality piece of ci. :)

I am afraid the paiting would get ruined when I fired up my stove...... Just kidding. Yes it appears to be a beautiful picture.

Funny I was chastised today by one of my fellow cooks, cause a neighbor camper was all excited about his junk shop find of rusty old cast iron. 2 of the 3 pcs were cracked, so he said he would make wall hangings out of them, and wanted to go through the trouble of derusting and seasoning. I jokingly told him to paint them black, and phew I got told flat out ya don't paint cast iron. If ya can't cook with it, I am afraid it ain't no good to me.

The skillet was in fine shape; no cracks, not warped. There was no identifiable (to my untrained eye) markings to indicate a valuable vintage piece of iron. I should have looked at the price tag to see just how much they wanted. My guess is that it was more than it'd be worth to me, as the rest of their cast iron was pretty pricey.

Ken,
I agree with you. That's a pretty cool idea for an old cast iron skillet. I've seen a lot paintings done on antique saw blades but never on this.
Out of curiosity, did you go to the new Pontiac museum? It's on my list sometime when we are in the area and was wondering how it was shaping up.
Alan

Hi Alan. We didn't make it into the museum, but plan on getting back when we can spend some time. How's things on the East coast? Hope you guys are doing well.

Ken,
We're doing well thank you. We managed to escape most of the carnage form the Oct. snow storm and it's been pretty mild since then. love to see it last all winter but we know that ain't gonna happen! Take care and we're still hoping for a chance to get together.
