The "Dew Drop Inn" Chronicles

Sounds like a great trip so far Michael! We went through the Smokey Mtn Park on Sunday, after Thanksgiving! We were on The NC side of it though. It was beautiful!!!

I'm sure we'll link up somewhere along the way! Take care, and have fun!!!

Dan and Vanessa, that is pretty cool that there were 2 Camp-Inns at the park that weekend. We will be driving through the great state of Texas on our way home and have plans to visit
Big Bend NP after the New Year so we could very likely cross paths.

Michael

Michael-
Well if you come through on IH-10, let us know! We're only 5 minutes from there on the NW side of San Antonio!

We will keep that in mind Dan, I have worked in San Antone and have visited since, love that city, beautiful, great history, we will keep you updated as the new year approaches.

Hi S&S

I touched on this in an earlier post however did not mention the stiff suspension, the TD drops the back end only slightly. The Mini towed "Dewey" through the Smokeys with little effort, revs were never above 4000 in 3rd on fairly steep 2 lane blacktop, so far so good. We did not anticipate mid 80 degree temps in Florida, we had 2/50 air on (open 2 windows and drive 50 mph) to keep aluminum block cool.

Michael

That so much reminds me of my little 1975 1500cc Triumph Spitfire. I drove that thing around for about 6 years ('78-'83) and would have to turn the HEAT on when it was summer time because the engine would get to over heating! Talk about a hot foot!

Learning to be one with your engine. There is a particular deceptive but deadly grade out in the desert between LA and Vegas, almost always see someone dead on the side of the road trying to make that pass doing 80 with the air on, best to slow down, turn the air off and open the windows just to be safe, that way you're sure to be sippin a cool one poolside instead of waitin for a tow truck drenched in sweat.

It sounds like your trip is going smoothly. How did the wax job hold up to the salt? I'm still trying to decide whether to wax or not to wax. The trailers I saw that are not waxed look beautiful but I don't know if they waxed initially before leaving the nest or not.
My ABS module has gone out in my Element so I have to get that fixed before having it wired for the seven pin. January is usually a slow month at the trailer place near me so I'm waiting till then anyway.

Our pin should be on St George Island FL, haven't edited profile lately, cel service comes and goes here. Wax did it's job, no nasty pitting from the salt, both car and trailer covered in the stuff on the trip south. Sounds like you've got some chores to get done before you pick up Paddywagon, spring is a ways off, plenty of time to get ready.

Michael

OK our pin is on St George Island now. The rain is coming down pretty good but our Northern Breeze is keeping us dry, LOVE this NB, the Dewey crew highly recommends it.

Michael

Temp is dropping fast here on St George Island, just checked the weather back home, Port Townsend and St George Island are both 52 degrees, go figure.

Michael

OK Frank, it's official, Washington (parts anyway) is warmer than Florida, time to go camping! The furnace on Dewey earned it's worth last night.

We're striking camp and moving on to the next barrier island, peninsula actually, St Joes. Report to follow.

Heheh, fun...

Those furnaces, to me, are worth their weigh in gold... especially this time of year in the PNW...

That's not so good. It's a little disappointing to drive 3 or 4 thousand miles and experience Wa type weather. I think it has a better chance of getting better there though.
I have allowed my son-in-law to use half of my shop for his welding equipment for years. Now that I need the space to store my teardrop I am in the process of adding on to his shop so he can move out of mine. I have a duplex and they live in half of it. There is also a mother-in-law apartment on the other end where my Mom lives. Right now I'm going through the permit process so a long way to go. Probably won't start construction till January or so.
The forum is so quiet I just thought I'd write something. Anything.

A nice inside space for Paddywagon, that's a more appropriate topic than cel service in China eh, haha. We have made camp on St Joe Peninsula, we are in site 82, almost 360 degrees of jungle around us, very private, beautiful place, thanks Jenn for the recommendation. The weather is still cold, the forecast for tonight is the very low 30s, it's all good, everything is relative, when Susan and I lived in Miami we used to come up to this part of Florida in winter to escape the heat!
